Learn Japanese

I've been an avid otaku of Anime since I was young. And until now I really enjoy watching some Anime series like Bleach, One Piece, Jigoku Shoujo, Gakuen Alice and many more. I just want to share to you some Japanese words and their English meanings.
  • akimashite omedetou - happy new year
  • anime - animation, animated series
  • bakumatsu - great upheaval, Japanese civil war
  • bishoujo - pretty girl
  • bishounen - good looking boy
  • chara - short for character
  • chibi - small version (e.g. Chibiusa = Small Usagi)
  • dojo - martial arts gym
  • doujin - fan
  • fuku - uniform
  • gakuen - academy
  • ganbarimasu - we'll do our best
  • ganbatte - goodluck, hang in there
  • gokiburi - cockroach
  • hana - flower
  • hentai - adult stuff
  • hiba-san - great grandmother
  • hiouji-san - great grandfather
  • hitokiri - sword slasher
  • inu - dog
  • itadakimasu - let's eat
  • jigoku - hell
  • kamen - mask
  • kawaii - cute
  • kendo - art of sword, swordsmanship
  • kendoka - one who practices kendo
  • kohai - junior member, student
  • konnichiwa - good day, good afternoon
  • kunoichi - female ninja
  • manga - comics
  • maru - round, circle, circular
  • mecha - robot, robotic
  • neko - cat
  • ningen - human, humankind
  • oba-san - grandmother
  • oka-san - mother
  • ojii-san - grandfather
  • onegai - please
  • omedetou - congratulations
  • otaku - fan
  • seiyuu - voice actor
  • sempai - senior member, student
  • sensei - teacher
  • senshi - soldier
  • sentai - task force
  • shoujo - girl
  • shounen - boy
  • sukebe - pervert, naughty person
  • takai - expensive
  • tomodachi - friend
  • watashi-tachi - us
  • yukata - a summer kimono
  • yuki - snow
  • zasshi - magazine
